Patent pact
Cisco Systems Inc, Google Inc, Ericsson AB, Hewlett-Packard Co, Verizon Communications Inc and six other companies formed a group that plans to buy patents in a bid to reduce infringement lawsuits.
The organization, called the Allied Security Trust, will purchase patents covering technology that its members plan to use, spokesman Bruce Berman said. The Poughkeepsie, New York-based group won't buy patents as an investment, he said. Berman declined to name the six other members.
